General:
Annual, or rarely, short-lived perennial; stems erect to somewhat decumbent, 10-50 cm long, single to several, usually branched at base, sparingly to moderately stiff-hairy below.
Leaves:
Basal leaves egg-shaped to oblanceolate, 1.5-6 cm long, 5-20 mm wide, entire to shallowly wavy-margined and lobed to pinnately-cut with egg-shaped, wavy-margined to entire segments, generally stalked, lower surfaces glabrous, upper with few hairs; stem leaves oblong, egg-shaped, or oblanceolate, 4-8 cm long, 5-15 mm wide, generally with clasping, ear-like lobes, entire or round-toothed to saw-toothed.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of 2-5 (7) mm long, divergent to ascending stalks; petals very pale yellow, oblong to spoon-shaped, 1-1.5 mm long, 0.2-1 mm wide; sepals 1-1.5 mm long, glabrous, not pouched at base, deciduous shortly after anthesis.
Fruits:
Siliques, oval to oblong-lanceolate, slightly curved inward, 3-6 (8) mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm wide, blunt to obtuse at the tips; beaks 0.2-1 mm long; seeds brown, about 0.5 mm long, minutely honeycombed and pimpled, 10-80.

Habitat / Range

Moist sandy soils in the lowland to lower montane zones; infrequent in S BC east of the Coast-Cascade Mountains; E to MI, MO and TX, and S to CA and N MX.
